Match Report

Result: 40 - 25 W

Wednesday 20th March signified St Hugh’s U13 Girls' first rugby team established, captained by Charlotte. Following just one training session the girls' rugby team had their first competitive fixture against Queen Elizabeth Grammar School, Horncastle. We travelled to QEGS in great spirits, excited to see how we would perform as a team. We agreed to play four quarters progressing from touch to contact rugby. The first quarter was touch and both teams started positively, moving the ball into space resulting in some quick tries being scored. We then moved to the second quarter where we played touch go to ground again - both teams worked well on falling to ground and presenting the ball. St Hugh's finished the first half with a narrow lead, three tries to two. St Hugh’s tries coming from: Sophie (2) and Kitty. The third quarter, all the girls were keen to get into contact, so we agreed to play the final two thirds as full contact rugby. The St Hugh’s girls relished this opportunity and the development was amazing! The girls quickly learnt about carrying the ball through contact and made some great tackles resulting in the ball being turned over. This possession allowed for further tries through: Charlotte, Millie (2) and Sophie another two. Final result: eight tries to five and St Hugh’s girls' first win! Player of the match as voted by the opposition was Millie. Well done girls - amazing effort and a great result.
