Results:

  • U13A v Spratton: W 2-0
  • U13A v Oundle: W 2-0
  • U13A vStamford: D 0-0

The U13A boys travelled away for a rare fixture at Oundle. In order to make the extra miles worthwhile it was a quadrangular.

We were up first against Spratton Hall. It was a cagey start but then we started to show some dominance. Aydin was taking on their left back on the right wing and Max and William L were controlling the game down the centre of the park. Charlie scored our first in the first half after four minutes. In the second half Max scored after two minutes. The final score was 2-0.

Next up were Oundle and we were looking for greater communication between the defenders and to bring Rupert into the game more on the left. We started strong but couldn’t convert in the first half. In the second half we scored two goals. The pick of the day being William switching a free hit to the left to Rupert, who powered the ball through the D to Aydin who slammed the ball home.  The other goal of the 2-0 win was scored by Charlie after six minutes.

The final game against Stamford was to be the best hockey of the day, despite there being no goals. The Stamford goalie made a number of outstanding saves as we controlled the game well in all areas of the pitch.

U13B Team

Results:

  • U13B v Spratton: W 2-1
  • U13B v Oundle: W 2-1
  • U13B v Stamford: W 2-1

The B team played the same schools as the A team. We played 14 minute games, and instead of short corners we played penalty shuffles, which are quicker and much more fun!

The first match against Spratton Hall was dominated by St Hugh’s with Euan, Charles, Wilf and particularly Fergus very effective at playing the ball wide and crossing it into the D. Wilf opened the scoring after a particularly impressive cross from Fergus. He then added to the score with a cleverly taken penalty shuffle.

Spratton got a goal back but William and Raul proved effective at preventing any more goals.

The second match against Oundle was very similar to the first, with St Hugh’s having the majority of the ball and chances. We were awarded two penalty shuffles and again Wilf converted both of them to give us a 2-1 victory.

Stamford was our final match and Euan scored an excellent goal to give us the lead. We were then awarded another penalty shuffle, which penalty shuffle expert Wilf calmly tucked away. We then conceded our first penalty shuffles and Toby made a strong save with the first one but was beaten by the second. We hung on to win the game 2-1 and earn a 100% record for the afternoon.
