1st and 2nd at Ayscoughfee Cross Country

It was a very promising performance from our U9 Cross Country team on Wednesday afternoon. A team of six girls and six boys travelled to Spalding to compete at an invitational Cross Country event hosted by Ayscoughfee.  Both teams were made up of Year 3 and 4 pupils so we had a relatively young team overall. This was the first time we have entered this event and it was very much enjoyed by the pupils.

The U9 girls team consisted of Lucy S (Year 4), Olivia C (Year 4), Peyia F (Year 4), Florence L (Year 3), Ailsa F (Year 3) and Amelia F (Year 3). It was a generally flat course but it did have a short very steep incline towards the end and the route saw the runners covering 1.2km. St Hugh's has a good start with Florence L leading the pack initially. She was closely followed by Lucy S and Olivia C. Ailsa worked hard to keep close with the leading pack which was important being the fourth team counter. Amelia and Peyia were neck in neck throughout and showed great grit and determination.  Overall St Hugh's finished strongly as a team and we were delighted to be crowned champions, with 22 points ahead of second place, and Lucy S also receiving a medal for 3rd place.

Lucy S - 3rd
Florence L - 4th
Olivia C - 5th
Ailsa F - 6th
Peyia F - 12th
Amelia F - 13th

The boys race followed with Huxley S leading the St Hugh's team.  The boys worked away steadily and we soon had three of our six runners in the leading pack, with Elliot and Henry pushing on. Our Year 3 boys worked hard to close the gap with Aydin being our fourth counter.  This was a real team effort and with us achieving 5th, 6th, 8th and 11th place, the U9 boys finished in 2nd place overall, only two points off 1st place position.  A fabulous effort from the boys.

Elliot A - 5th
Huxley - 6th
Henry - 8th
Aydin - 11th
Jenson - 13th
Cameron Mc - 16th

Well done to all competitors and thank you to our parents for coming along to support the children. We look forward to hosting our own Cross Country event on Tuesday 2nd April.
