Invitational Swimming Gala

"The pool was buzzing on Monday afternoon with approximately eighty children competing in our invitational gala. It was great to be back hosting a number of schools in our lovely pool and seeing our pupils enjoying the opportunity to swim competitively again. We welcomed Wellow House, Highfields School and St George’s Prep along with a huge amount of spectators!

Our Swim Squads train weekly in addition to their curricular swimming lesson and they have worked incredibly hard to develop their strokes in preparation for this event. There were girls and boys teams from U8-11 swimming both individual races and team relays and what a fantastic sight it was. I was very impressed how a number of pupils happily stepped up to swim in a race they were not expecting to.  With a free lane available, they rose to the challenge and in some instances, won the event!

St Hugh’s certainly put on a great show, demonstrating our strength across the board. Every swimmer gave their best and this resulted in a huge amount of 1st place performances. Some races were closely fought and it was encouraging to see how determined our pupils were. This was evident in the team relays with the St Hugh’s swimmers battling hard and dominating once again in all age groups! Our pupils represented the school very well and clearly enjoyed the afternoon. A huge well done to everyone for a sterling effort!"
