Match Report

Result: L 10 - 30 (2 - 6)

St Hugh’s U13 had trained well all week and were looking forward to the game against Spalding, with the hope of continuing their winning streak. Spalding won the toss and opted to receive the kick. The first half was quick paced with play moving end to end. Unfortunately, this speed did bring with it a lot of handling errors by both teams. With the scrums being uncontested in the first half possession changed hands a lot. St Hugh’s were first on the score sheet with a well worked try finished by Toby. Spalding responded with some strong ball carrying and scored. Poor discipline and body positioning resulted in a few penalties. Spalding gave one away in front of the try line, and a quick tap a go from Will L saw St Hugh’s take the lead again. Just before the half time whistle some missed tackles resulted in Spalding scoring their second making it a tie with all to play for. St Hugh’s struggled to find their form in the second half, but dominated the scrums which now moved to fully contested. Spalding appeared to grow in confidence. Through some strong running by Spalding they managed to finish off four more tries. St Hugh’s showed some good ball handling, but were unable to convert this into points. A tough game for St Hugh’s boys, but one to learn from and we can bounce back next week.
