Red Team

Result:

Red: 1-1 Draw

After a long bus journey and in the pouring rain the girls took to the grass pitch ready to go. We worked hard in games on Monday to adapt to playing on a grass pitch. Against a strong opposition the girls held their own and produced some super moments of play. Ranby were first to score and this fired up the girls to fight harder for the ball. The whole team made some super passes, dribbles and tackles but Cecily was a stand out for her determination and defensive efforts. With the help of her teammates Anna was able to score and this put us 1-1 at half time. After a quick team talk and change of some positions it was time to focus on keeping possession of the ball. The ball remained in our half for most of the last 15 minutes and the girls were close to scoring on several occasions. I’m incredibly proud of the effort from the girls and how they are working together. Opposition player of the match went to Annie. Well done girls!

Blue Team

Result: L4-2

The girls were keen to get started. Sadly we didn’t have time for a warm up. This was the girls first experience on grass and it took them a while to adapt to hitting rather than pushing.

Ranby scored two early goals.

The girls fought back with resilience and determination and Abi brought the ball up the pitch and started to make a real impact on the game with good decision making and excellent dribbling. Abi scored the first goal for St Hugh’s and this gave the team confidence.

Valentina, Willow and Lucy were excellent at winning the ball back and worked incredibly hard. Monaco was excellent in defence and timed her tackles well and made some good strong clearances. Monaco was nominated as player of the match by the opposition. Ottilie scored the second goal for St Hugh’s and created other changes in the D.

It was a pleasure to work with the girls and their tenacity was impressive.

Yellow Team

Result: W 6-1

As we arrived on pitch we had a quick team talk about our structure and how playing on grass will be different to the Astro the girls are used to. The team took to the pitch and from the first whistle took control and attacked as a team and scored an early goal by Jemima. We kept the same structure with Jemima up front and Eme and Nia on the wing. As a team the girls defended well and came away with the ball again with Jemima attacking with speed again, finding the goal another two times before half time.

Quick team talk about space, supporting behind play and pushing forward saw Eme narrowly miss a shot at a goal!

Creating more space as a team gave Jemima another three attempts at goal, successfully scoring each one!

It was a fantastic team effort from all the players - well done Yellow Team!

Opposition player Jemima.

Green Team

The girls were ready to start their game after a long bus journey sat in traffic! We had Libby, Bea and Hailey up in attack and Lana and Flo in defence. The girls worked hard to adapt their training and skills to playing on the grass. Two minutes into the game Bea dribbled the ball up to the goal with Ranby's defence looking strong, she took the ball past their defender and hit it straight in! We gained some confidence and started hitting the ball further with more power! Lana and Flo worked well together stopping many goals and pushing the ball up the pitch. Ranby then came in strong and scored two goals so we were one behind. Libby found a gap in the defence and took the ball up to the goal and got it in with one big hit. With two minutes left it was 3-2 to Ranby. We quickly got back in position and started the final two minutes of the game very determined to even out the score. Hailey made some excellent tackles and won the ball over, passing it to Flo who then scored the last goal of the game! The final score was 3-3, the girls definitely fought hard for every goal!
