Match Report

On Monday we welcomed Lincoln Minster to play hockey. It was great to see every Year 3 and 4 girl competing in their respective teams and lovely to have so much support on the sidelines! All three teams worked well together to score a good number of goals! It was also fabulous to see how organised we were in terms of our positioning at the start of the game.

Red Team

Result: 6-0 W

St Hugh’s started strong and were chasing loose balls and making early tackles. We have been focusing on applying defensive pressure to every ball to shut down passing. It was great to see the determination from the girls and game awareness developing. The girls played four quarters and had plenty of match play opportunities at different positions. Many goals were scored and this was down to individual performance and fantastic hits and feeds down the pitch and into the D allowing someone to cleanly sweep the ball to goal. Three goals were scored by Cecily and one from Emilia, Anna and Maya. The camaraderie and teamwork was lovely to see as they encouraged each other on and off the pitch. Opposition player of the match went to Annie. Well done girls!

Blue and Yellow Teams

Both these teams worked incredibly hard over two ten minute halves. I was really impressed by how well they organised themselves at the start and restart of play, showing good awareness of positions on the pitch. Though we started a little tentatively, the girls soon got into their stride and did very well to transition the ball up the pitch. There were some super clearances in defence too, particularly by Lucy F who used the width of the pitch incredibly well. Lana also showed her strength at the back. We also performed well on the ball in attack, with some pleasing runs from Jemima, Libby, Ottilie and Eme who also managed to score a goal this week! Florence B also had a close encounter but unfortunately the ball had not been touched in the D so was not allowed. A great team effort. Well done.
