Year 6 Visits Woodhall Spa Cottage Museum

Year 6 took the short walk down to the Cottage Museum, a splendid local museum archiving the history of Woodhall Spa.

After a brief introductory talk about the Wield family who lived in Woodhall during the Edwardian period, pupils took part in a ‘History Detectives’ activity. They explored the reconstructed Edwardian home and enjoyed searching out eight anachronistic objects. After this they looked at genuine artefacts of the time, trying to guess their purpose and suggesting the equivalent modern object. The second session was a practical rag-rugging activity. Pupils used traditional materials and tools to create a miniature rag rug; an old method of using up scraps of material to make a useful floor covering – the original upcycling project!

Thanks to Tina and her team of volunteers for looking after us so well and imparting their knowledge with such enthusiasm.
